K is for Hershey Kisses: Chocolate Crescent Croissants (Jen)

Happy 2012 to friends near and far!

Did you enjoy your New Years? Ours was lovely and overall, pretty mellow...as I've gotten along in years (all 28 of them), I find the idea of going out on NYE less and less appealing. Cover charges, crowds, standing for long periods of time in my highest heels? Hmmm....lemme think about it....hmmm...no. : ) Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all for the festive spirit and crazy antics of NYE, and I do enjoy the dress up part (as my sister says, it's the only time of year you can really dress in head-to-toe sequins and sparkles and not get weird looks...maybe) but, as I've aged, my tastes have changed and I'd rather be at home, sipping my champagne and watching Ryan Seacrest on TV. Hahaha...ok, I've shared far too much about myself. Onto the recipe!

This week's secret ingredient was Hershey Kisses. The way I've always enjoyed them has been in their original form, either by themselves or stuck into the middle of a cookie like a Peanut Butter Blossom. As I scanned around the web, I found another way to enjoy these cookies...melted and spread onto Pillsbury crescent dough. Hmmm....yes. That's what I thought. : )

Chocolate Crescent Croissants
inspired by this recipe, but these are my own directions (the original recipe on the Kisses website is a little different)

Ingredients

1 package Pillsbury Crescent dough
20 or so Hershey Kisses

Directions

1. Unwrap Pillsbury Crescent dough and arrange individual triangles of dough on a cookie sheet.
2. Unwrap Hershey Kisses and place in microwaveable bowl. Heat on high for 30 seconds. Stir and heat for another 10-15 seconds if needed. Be careful not to burn the chocolate. Stir until smooth.
3. Spread about a teaspoon of chocolate onto each triangle of dough and roll up.

Review:

Can you say, err, spell E-A-S-Y?? This recipe is easy peasy, and came together faster than you can say Hershey kiss! I actually made these at my parents' house because we were at their place whipping up another feast for my aunt, uncle and cousin who were in town visiting from Kansas! Amidst the chicken parmesan, foccacia, and baked pasta dishes, I made these beauties and we ate them like they were appetizers. : ) My dad's comment was "Mmm, good...very tasty." While my mom's was "Very good. Nice for people who don't really care for chocolate much, like me." So, there you have it folks. A very good, nice and tasty treat for the non-chocolate loves out there! I thought they were good, too, but also thought they tasted just like their ingredients...chocolate in crescent dough! I'd add them to a brunch where you might be serving up a few savory dishes and need a little addition of sweet. Here's to a sweet beginning to 2012!

Bonus: Artsy Hershey Kisses photo by moi : )

Jessica's secret ingredient next week is lentils!
